My Review: Miss Cassidy is a Scottish governess who has just arrived in Singapore. Her new employer is a widower who is trying to arrange marriages for his twin daughters. However, Miss Cassidy realizes that an evil spirit haunts the family. Can Miss Cassidy get rid of the evil spirit?
Miss Cassidy was an intriguing character. She was a fierce and feisty protagonist. She was intelligent and courageous! I liked how she handles supernatural creatures. Early on, the reader learns that Miss Cassidy is not who she appears to be. Therefore, it was fascinating unraveling the mystery of Miss Cassidy’s origins! She was a fun and mysterious protagonist!
I also liked Miss Cassidy’s budding romance with Mr. Kay. I wanted to see if they would end up together! They are a sweet and cute couple! I liked how they trusted each other! I also liked that Mr. Kay had a unique gift of seeing ghosts! However, I wished his gift was used more in the book. Nevertheless, I found him charming and that he pairs well with Miss Cassidy!
Overall, this book is about secrets, love, and family. I found all of the characters to be likable and realistic. Though, I found the novel’s world-building to be confusing, and I wished that Mrs. Boey would have explained in more detail Singaporean folklore and history. Nevertheless, it was a fast-paced and entertaining read! I liked the paranormal aspects in the book! I also liked the cliffhanger ending! I am eager to read the sequel, The Enigmatic Madam Ingram! I recommend this book for fans of The Cherry Trees of Rosings, The Third Wife of Faraday House, and The Haunting of Hecate Cavendish!
